About Plas Aberceri Holiday Cottages in West Wales
Plas Aberceri Mansion is owned by Colin & Pippa York. The house is set in five acres of formal gardens, woodland and orchards and one boundary of 250 yards is formed by the Teifi, a highly regarded game river. We have a variety of lies and pools including the holding pool for the Ceri which is a well known spawning river for salmon and sea trout. And yes, people do still use coracles on the river!
A guide book describes how
"the broad flood of the Teifi swirls beneath the mansion's hill which turns the river aside to create a deep salmon pool on the bend" and another says of the pool "take a look at the salmon pool on the river where the Teifi swings round the rocky mound. Fabulous catches have been recorded here".
The fishing is reserved exclusively to our guests and is free to them - the only requirement being of course a Environment Agency licence obtainable locally if not already held.
The grounds are a nature lover's delight; there are wild flowers - snowdrops, daffodils, wood anemones, violets, cowslips and primroses- and in spring, when there is a wonderful display of rhododendron and azaleas, the woods are carpeted with bluebells.
We have Canada geese, kingfishers, dippers, spotted crakes; there are bats and owls; the river is used by otters and mink and occasionally badger scratchings can be found in the woods.
There is a stone circle in our lower field and a small Greek style temple at the top of our hill, both places ideal for picnics.
Many of our guests are professional and amateur artists who find inspiration in the quiet corners. Fred Cuming, Royal Academy painter, says quite simply "It is absolutely lovely".
